This Locomobile is not only in beautiful condition, it is:
  • Documented to the day of delivery with invoice!
  • Only 3 owners since new - the Day Family, with lots of correspondence and backup from December 23, 1916 , Harrah's auto collection in 1975, and the present owner since 1981
  • Believed extremely low mileage - approximately 2,400 miles
  • Restored in the Mid-1980's, shown at Pebble Beach 1990 and again 1996
  • Pebble Beach 2007 SECOND PLACE CLASS WINNER!
The top is completely collapsible

The Locomobile 48 is accepted for Full Classic Status in the CCCA - Classic Car Club of America, because the 1917 version is so close to the 1925 Locomobile.

The Specifications of this car are Herculean:

  • 525 Cubic inch 6 cylinder engine
  • Bronze Crankcase
  • 142" Wheelbase
  • $7606 original pricetag - in 1917, when $500 or so would buy a new Ford
  • 4 Speed transmission

The top will collapse completely - it was left raised for judging.
The Green Ribbon signifies successful participation in the Pebble Beach Tour, a vigourous tour that shows this car not only can win trophies, but is useable and driveable as well!
A motorcar of Herculean proportions!
Dual Rearmounted spares.
Beautifully detailed chassis
Beautiful interior - note the leather upholstered driver's seat - the records on the car show it was intended to be chauffer driven - contrasted with the rich wool patterned broadcloth in the rear section, intended for the passengers.
Completely and beautifully instrumented.
Unique mascot.
Excellent wood spoke wheels,  pinstriped.
Close up of the gauges - lovely indeed!
Here's the detail on the engine - Cylinders cast in pairs, note the bronze crank case and the bronze valve plugs on the top of the cylinder heads.  At this point, the water pump/generator assembly are out being repaired, but this work will be completed prior to delivery of course.
J. Frank DeCausse was a very famous designer - this design still looked modern in the mid 1920's, almost 10 years after it was put on paper!
The interior was restored using a special run of French wool broadcloth, a particularly beautiful and appropriate material.
Here's the Original invoice of $7606 !   It is very rare to find a car with the extensive documentation that this one does.
