1926 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Pall Mall. Factory Left Hand Drive Springfield Rolls,  with its original Merrimac body and matching numbers engine, and excellent provenance including the original owner!  John T. Caperton bought the car new, and his son, who is still alive today, visited this car and shared his memories of it!  The ownership chain is very nearly unbroken, with all subsequent owners known since 1951 !

Absolutely beautiful interior, done in brown leather.  The leather is exactly like the original, with a very lightly embossed pattern and a harder finish than most modern leather has.  The son of the original owner saw this car in it’s current state, and he remarked how the upholstery looked exactly right!

Here’s a great feature – the pre-bijur centralized chassis lubricator – each port threads into the oil gun, for leak-free lubrication of torque tube, sphere, and engine coupling!

IMG_4531.

Very nicely detailed indeed!

IMG_4535.

This engine has huge amounts of torque, it just pulls like a train!  The oil pressure is nice and high, and it runs smoothly and starts easily, both cold and when it’s been warmed up.  I noticed an engine noise, kind of like a grumble, that sounds to me like some sort of valvetrain noise. I feel as though I should mention that.  Also note the modern generator, the correct generator is also included in the sale.

IMG_4545.

Another great feature is the gear vendors overdrive unit, which is made to fit just behind the transmission, replacing the original drive coupling.  It’s a bolt-in item, and the original parts are included with the car.

IMG_4541.

the undercarriage is clean and tidy.

IMG_4543.

Nice!  Ready to tour!

IMG_4540.

Clean and orderly underneath.

The Flying Lady atop the classic and instantly recognizable radiator shell!  The Radiator shell was inspired by the Classical Greek temple, the Parthenon.  The Ancient Greeks had a theory of the ideal ratio of height to width, and that theory was reflected in the design of the temple.  And, if you were a college educated person in the early 20th century, your curriculum likely included exposure to the ancient Greeks as well as possibly the ancient Greek and Latin Languages.  So in a subtle way, Rolls Royce was telling their target market of elite customers that this car evoked the same perfection in design as the ancient Greeks!

IMG_4455.

the top and interior were trimmed by the famed Nemanic of San Francisco, and are of the highest quality!

IMG_4468.

Beautiful black fabric, no wrinkles and straight seams !
