This 1927 Autocar Truck is a rare beast, with only 3 owners since new! Ganahl lumber had it new, then Henry ( Hank ) Ponteprino’s dad, and the current owner, a family friend of the Ponteprino’s.  Hank mentioned his dad bought it from Ganahl lumber when it still fairly new.   It’ll need recommissioning work to run again. The engine is free, it spun over with the crank as recently as 2012.

It’s a 4 cylinder truck, with pneumatic tires. The license plates are from 1951, and the family thinks that’s when it was retired from active road service.

Farm.

Here’s an aerial photo of the farm, taken sometime before the war. The large metal barn behind the house is the actual barn this truck is found in today!  The Ponteprino family were  Orange County agricultural pioneers, with extensive avocado groves. Meyer Ponteprino even got a Plant Patent in 1952 for a specific type of avocado tree!

It’s equipped with both a self-starter and a crank!

Big steering wheel, and clutch and brake. Center mounted accellerator. Even though this truck was built in 1927, it really looks like something right out of the Great War!

I love the dual row of louvers.

Rear pneumatic tires. They’re obviously quite old!

Now that’s a heavy duty axle!

there’s the oil pan and bellhousing.

And the separately mounted transmission. Everything about the design of this truck seems brass-era!

Very historic, and a wonderful barn find from its actual, original barn!
