The 1929 Stutz “M” Rumbleseat Convertible Coupe!

This car has the Overhead Cam 8 Cylinder Engine that showed the advanced nature of Stutz Engineering. This was every bit a Classic, with Giant Ryan Headlamps, dual sidemounts, Thermostatic radiator shutters, and the famous Sun God “Ra” hood ornament. Stutz also had a low slung look because of their unique worm gear rear axle, which allowed the driveshaft to be lower than most cars, hence allowing the bodywork to sit lower on the frame. I Think Beverly Rae Kimes said it a little better – ” It’s centrally lubricated chassis featured an underslung worm drive which allowed for low and intoxicatingly sensual bodies”

That is a very, very pretty car. The design is perfectly balanced, the colors are right for 1929, and it looks great!

I can’t get enough of these Ryan headlamps.

When you think of the un-inspired Iron Lumps that powered so many cars in 1929, a look at this fine powerplant makes you realize how advanced Stutz was! this 115 Horsepower Straight Eight with overhead camshaft was astonishing for it’s time.

Here we see the dual ignition distributor (count the wires, and realize it’s not a 16 cylinder car!) and the oil rectifier mounted on the exhaust manifold.

Here’s another view. The engine runs, but it does have a noise / knock, loud when cold, and somewhat quieter when warm. I am not exactly sure what the issue is, but you can hear it. We reflected that in the asking price.

The top is a nice and new, with inner liner.

Leather interior, done a while back, shows some patina. Note how nice the steering wheel and dashboard wood are.

Nice door hardware. All of the plating on this car is nice.

Gauges are in good shape, with clear faces, etc. However, the clock is missing in action.

The Rumbleseat is a great feature!

So is the fold-out windshield.

And the luggage rack, shown here retracted.
