This 1948 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible is in beautiful condition, with a freshly rebuilt engine and transmission, and significant recent restoration work.   It drives beautifully, and is ready for touring and adventure!

The Chrysler Town & Country was an opulent display of wealth in 1948 – it was a very expensive car for it’s time, and it would have been obvious to your neighbors that you were prosperous if you were driving one!

An imposing and deLuxe front view!  Note the foglamps and dual spotlights

These are full CCCA Classics, eligible for all Classic Car Club of America tours and events.  This car would make a great CAR-A-VAN conveyance!

The wood on this car is exceptionally nice, with refinished original main spars and newly done panel inserts

IMG_8554.

Beautiful from any angle

IMG_8555.

Look at that gorgeous wood!

Note the reflection in the panel insets

IMG_8562.

Postwar elegance at its best!

IMG_8580.

Very nice interior, done correctly.

The Leather, in Parchment color, and whipcord combination are just how this car would have left the factory.

IMG_8583.

Very deLuxe indeed. The dashboard & steering wheel are in excellent condition.

IMG_8585.

Excellent underneath the dash, too.

IMG_8584.

I love the clear lucite shift knob.

Excellent top bows and new top fabric!

The top is nice and fresh , done in Haartz cloth.  Highest quality work here.

Let’s open the hood and look at the engine. It’s a recently rebuilt Chrysler straight 8 with Fluid Drive Transmission.

IMG_8571.

The Fluid drive was Chrysler’s introduction to an automatic style of transmission.  It has a torque converter – the “fluid” part of the equation, with the goal of making driving easier.  In operation, you can be at rest, step on the gas in third gear, and move away smartly. there are 2 ranges, so when you’ve reached mid-speed, you back off the throttle, and the transmission goes into “high” range.  It’s really easy  and pleasant to drive!

The firewall is nicely finished.

Here’s the trim tag detail.

Nice Spotlights!

IMG_8578.

Bank Vault style hinges on the trunk. You can see a bit of chrome blushing on the top of the hinge. Overall, the chrome on this car is good but there are some flaws or signs of age here and there.

IMG_8574.

Very nice chrome, but not perfect chrome.

IMG_8557.

Nice whitewalls and beautiful hubcaps.

IMG_8559.

A beautiful car!

IMG_8560.

Wow! a gorgeous and driveable car!  Not a top showcar, rather an excellent car with lots of recent work that makes it beautiful and operational on the open highway.  And speaking of the highway, this is a powerful car that will easily maintain freeway speeds.

Delightful!
