This 1968 Ford LTD Country Squire Station Wagon is the nicest all orginal car I’ve ever had. It has everything going for it – Beautiful Original paint,  wonderful original vinyl, a like-new original interior and bright chrome. It’s only had 2 owners – the original owner, Martha L. Williams, and the second owners, a car collecting family, who bought the car in 1985.

There was a lot going on in Martha’s life in 1968 – she lived in Massachusetts, and she was getting married and going to live in California.  To that end, she bought this car brand new at Abel Ford in Revere, Massachusetts, and immediately drove it out to Santa Monica, California. Most of the mileage up to the first oil change noted in the owner’s manual was done on the trip to California!

Here’s the owner card. It’s great when these documents survive!

The original paint is Lime Gold, a medium metallic green.  The paint is amazingly nice – still shiny and deep. This car was always kept indoors, and it wears it’s nearly 78,000 original miles very lightly.  Both owners took excellent care of the car!

IMG_5401.

Notice the black California license plate, the original license plate issued to this car when it was new!

IMG_5443.

These are the delivery documents – still in their original clear plastic envelope.

And there’s Martha, still with her maiden last name on the owner’s manual.

Absolutely beautiful! I love the grille with the hide-away headlights! The car is equipped with 390 V-8, FMX automatic transmission ( ’68 was the first year for the FMX) Factory Air Conditioning, Power Front Disc Brakes, Power Steering, 2-way rear tailgate, Electric tailgate window, AM Radio, and 15″ wheels.

Beautiful chrome, black license plate, and hide-away headlight doors.

IMG_5408.

And the headlight doors work great too! Also note the parking lights just above the bumper corners.

IMG_5402 .

The rear window is electrically operated, either from a switch under the dash or by turning the key in the door handle.  And, it’s a two way door – either hinged at the left or hinged at the bottom, depending on which handle is used. And, that window works great – it zips up and down!

IMG_5406.

 What a great looking wagon!

IMG_5399.

The embodiment of the suburban ideal – the Country Squire!  Look how nice this is – with the little horizontal lines in the wood, and the excellent chrome, script and reflector.

IMG_5403 .

And the lenses! Bright, absolutely clear, and not a crack in sight! Astonishingly nice!

IMG_5404.

Brilliant!

IMG_5405.

Look at the detail on that roof rack!

IMG_5424.

Look and be amazed by the wonderful original interior! that is ALL original, and in near new condition!  Note the brake pedal – with the disc brake circle on it, this car has front disc brakes!

IMG_5410.

Note the rich and un-faded woodgraining throughout the interior!  And that steering wheel!  It’s like new, with no cracks, and a lovely appearance.  The  AM radio works great, with a rich, deep tone, and the dash lamps work great too! Horn, windshield wipers, turn signals, and heater all work fine.  The A/C is all hooked up, but it doesn’t blow cold air.

IMG_5412.

All that factory woodgraining looks beautiful!

IMG_5411.

Wow! Beautiful original vynil dash, with no cracks.

IMG_5413.

Beautiful doorpanel, with excellent armrest, and rich wood accent.

IMG_5415.

Bright Silver LTD with Gold Crown. Wow!

IMG_5416.

Super clean glovebox with working courtesy lamp.

IMG_5420.

Look at the amazingly nice, clean and original doorjamb!  I went over this whole car looking for evidence of even a partial repaint, and there just isn’t.  In my opinion, this car has entirely original paint.

IMG_5409.

Here’s what happens when you turn the ignition key – bright lights indicating the car is cold, and indicating that the alternator light is working turn on.

IMG_5421.

The “390” emblem shows what’s under the hood – a mighty Ford “FE” series V-8.

IMG_5435.

The engine bay is pretty clean and all original.  The engine runs great!  And, the car drives great!

IMG_5450.

When the second family bought the car in 1985, it had 72,000 miles, and it needed a valve job, the receipt for which is shown here.  It now has just under 78,000 miles, so it’s been lightly used indeed!

.

IMG_5436.

Even the underside of the hood is clean and original!

IMG_5437.

IMG_5438.

The rear compartment is really clean.  It shows some signs of actually having been used to carry things!  Key things to note are the plastic side covers – not damaged or broken like so many station wagon side covers are.  Also the center handle on the tailgate is what you used to put the tailgate down flat.  This is the 6 passenger wagon, with 2 rows of seats.

IMG_5427.

Excellent and totally original! As I walk around the car it continues to amaze me how well cared for it was!

IMG_5442.

Perfect original headliner.

IMG_5441.

Spare, jack adapter, and peeking out from behind the spare is the bumper jack.

IMG_5432.

These airfoils are used to direct air at high pressure to the rear cargo window area, to combat the exhaust gases from being pushed back inside the car.

IMG_5431.

I’m geeking out over details like the inside of the gas flap door – clean, never refinished.

IMG_5422.

Although it’s hard to find fault with this car, I’ll find one anyway – the upper edges of the lighter colored “Wood” – which are actually made of fiberglass – all show some deterioration, and it looks like there’s been some touch-up done.

IMG_5434.

Lovely.

IMG_5379.

Beautiful Solid rocker panels!

IMG_5381.

Look how good that is underneath. All original and solid!

IMG_5385.

Crisp original sheetmetal floors.

IMG_5389.

Nice and dry !

IMG_5396.

Wow!

IMG_5398.

Amazingly nice, and Amazingly Original!
