This 1980 Mercedes Benz  300 TD  Diesel Wagon is in absolutely stunning condition – and it is original!  Paint, Interior, and  low 103,000 miles !  I cannot get over how nicely this car has been cared for!  Housed indoors, properly maintained, and  even the clock works !  Cold Air Conditioning, with expensive recent service and  new compressor. It drives tight and solid with that comforting Mercedes Benz road feel.  It has the legendary 5 cylinder diesel engine, which is EXEMPT FROM CALIFORNIA SMOG CHECKS !  It gives the experience of a very nearly new car, it has been cared for so well. It’s offered by the Vault Classic Cars dealership, Fullerton, CA  714-401-1047

The original paint is still extemely nice, look at the shine and reflections on the hood!  Keep it this nice, and someday you’ll have a preservation class concours winner!

Classic Mercedes Benz in profile.  Note the roof racks.  It is the perfect country gentleman’s car !

And the Interior!  It’s like being in the  Palmer Motors Mercedes-Benz showroom in 1980 !  Unbelievable ! The butterscotch MB-Tex leather looks and feels like new, the wood trim is vibrant and lustrous, and the dashboard top looks as though it has never experienced a UV ray !  I salute the people who can keep a car for 37 years and keep it looking like new!  This car was purchased new at Palmer Motors  in Long Beach, CA, then made it’s way to Utah, Idaho, and recently resided in Palm Springs, California.  A pampered western life, indeed.

Here’s the original warranty book, showing Robert Grogan bought the car from Palmer Motors on January 20, 1981. The lower document, the “Productions-Daten”  shows the original engine number, which I verified is the matching numbers engine in this car.  Also note the IBM Punchcard style stampings in the upper right corner of the warranty book, which show that this book went with this exact car!

Even the steering wheel is an object of amazement – It’s the original padded steering wheel – and it is perfect, undamaged, and still feels soft and nice.  no cracks, no deterioration – creates the feel of the brand new Mercedes!

IMG_9879.

Look at that dashboard woodgraining – Spectacular!  Another thing that I love – the original Becker Europa AM/FM, with cassette!  And the radio works nicely!

IMG_9882.

Note the Air Conditioning Vents – The air conditioning works great, blows cold and comfortable!  AC is important in Palm Springs, and the owner took some expensive care to ensure it works properly.

Let’s move to the INCREDIBLY nice engine bay – looks exactly like Stuttgart intended it to look!

IMG_9895.

the 5 cylinder engine is astonishingly clean, all the cadmium plated items are still shiny, it’s a marvel to open the hood and see it this nice! This is the 3 liter OM617.912 naturally aspirated engine.  It’s the original engine for the car, matching the “Productions-Daten” document in the warranty book.

IMG_9896.

The battery is recent.  History and service records are included from 2013 to the present. The only operational issue I could find is a slight oil leak, also noted in the service records.

IMG_9901.

Excellent Mercedes Benz alloy wheels, with excellent radial tires.

IMG_9903.

Beautiful chrome roof racks.

IMG_9908.

Excellent chrome bumpers and clear tail light lenses. This car is so nice!

IMG_9909.

You can’t drive a car for 37 years and not show a little sign of use – there are a few chips in the paint on the leading edge of the hood, and some door edge chips.

IMG_9912.

What a great car!

IMG_9926.

Look how straight the car is – and those doors fit, open and close perfectly, with that quiet “Thunk” you expect from a high quality German automobile!

Beautiful!
