Here's a 1937 Packard Super 8 with sidemounts, foglamps, Packard Heater, and sidemount mirrors!  '37 was a big year for the senior Packards, with Hydraulic brakes and independent front suspension introduced for the first time. These cars are a revelation to drive in comparison with their earlier counterparts. The technology kept on improving, and the result was the car we see before us today!
This is a very straight, solid, good running car - it is a delight to drive - It runs 170 degrees even in really hot weather, it's smooth, holds 40 psi oil pressure, charges properly, and even the gas gauge works! It feels tight and nice, and it'll go along at 60 MPH without breathing hard.
The former owner did a valve job, and a variety of other service work, and it paid off in a car that operates and drives as a Packard should.
A good looking car!
You can tell in this photo that the thermostatic shutters are opening properly.  They close, too, when the car is cool, just like they're supposed to.
I really like the foglamps
What a great profile.
Wow!
good lookin' car !  And, a well preserved and maintained one, too.  the car is structurally completely sound, the doors fit perfectly, and open and shut properly.
This is the original upholstery, and it is in beautiful condition - it is still live and supple, not dried out or weak.  I can't get over how great the interior is!
the front lower cushion was redone in correct wool broadcloth, and the backrest looks like it's due for the same, with some rips showing.
Excellent original doorpanel.
More excellent original doorpanels.
AHH, that dashboard is BEAUTIFUL ! The woodgraining looks like new, the plating is excellent.  Wow!
here are the gauges.
More nice gauges.
Look at that woodgraining, it is a sight to behold.
More excellent original !
How nice is that?
Note some distress at the lower seat frame.
Nice rear compartment.  I think the carpeting was redone.
Here it is, the correct Super 8 Straight 8, of 320 cubic inches.
The air cleaner is not the right one, it's from a later Packard.  This engine really runs super!  It is, indeed, a Super 8 !
Packard H-Bigelow in Danbury, Connecticut sold this car on January 12, 1937.
that art deco gas pedal is in awfully nice condition.
The way the rest of the car is, it's possible this is the original mileage, although we can't guarantee it.
Definitely the original top insert, and it shows it's age, with some cracking visible.
Some chips in the paint here and there.  The paint is nice and shiny, but it's not new.
some paint lifting near the wheel opening lip.
'37 California plate goes with the car.  It's registered to modern CA plates, however.
A beautiful and correct car!
