This 1953 Nash Healey Le Mans Coupe is beautifully restored, runs great and is exceptionally rare!  I counted only 118 Coupes on the current Nash Healey registry, compared with the generally accepted total  figure of 506 coupes AND convertibles produced from ’51 to ’54.

.

George Mason, President of Nash, and Donald Healey, of racing and Austin-Healey fame, met on an ocean liner – with the result that Nash provided engines and running gear for the sportscar, and Healey did the chassis and fabrication.  Unlike the Corvette and Thunderbird, which were late to the U.S. Sportscar scene, the first Nash-Healey was built in 1951, and it was a legitimate sports car, placing 3’d OVERALL in the 1952 LeMans race.  AHEAD of the Ferrari, and coming in 3’d against the 300SL Mercedes-Benz.   Not bad for an independent manufacturer and an English hot-rodder!

PininFarina designed many of the Nash products of the early 50’s, and put their best work on the Nash-Healey chassis – Spectacular lines, beautiful proportions, and delicate and tasteful chrome accents make this a great looking car!  If it didn’t say “Nash” on the emblems one could be forgiven for thinking it’s an exotic foreign car, like a Ferrari !

Gorgeous!  Although it may look black in the photos, it’s a  very subtle shade of black with a bit of maroon in it – visible in direct sunlight, but not in the garage or in the shade.

The most tasteful tail fins ever put on a car! PininFarina updated the Nash-Healey , and the coupe started production in 1953. This car’s body was actually built in Italy by Pininfarina on the Healey chassis, and then shipped to the US for sale in Nash dealerships!

Wow!

The crossed flags of Nash and PininFarina! Nash wanted to use this car in the same way Chevrolet used the Corvette, as a “Halo” car to build brand awareness.

This is the Overhead valve Dual Jetfire Nash 6 cylinder, with dual Carter Carburetors. This particular engine was built in 1956, (Externally nearly identical to the ’53)  and is backed up by a GM dual range Hydramatic automatic transmission.  It runs great, lots of power, starts easily and is very enjoyable to drive.  An original 3 speed manual transmission is included with the car, in case you wanted to put it back to manual transmission.

IMG_1736.

Runs great and nicely finished inside the engine bay. The engine number is LMA277104, which corresponds to the 1956 dual Jetfire 140 HP dual carburetor 6 cylinder.  It’s titled to the engine number. The Nash-Healey chassis number on the firewall tag is 3004, which matches the frame number, and which shows up on the Nash-Healey Registry list.

Powerful and easy to work on!  The very essence of the greatness of the American/European hybrid!
