This 1934 Rolls Royce 20-25 Sports Saloon with coachwork by Thrupp & Maberly is a running, driving car.  It has sporting lines, a wonderful sunroof,  and is ready for a much deserved restoration!  Offered by The Vault Classic Cars, Fullerton, CA.  Call us at 714-401-1047 for more information.

It’s a tremendous design – the chrome spear curving down the belt line, the rearmount spare tire, the glass rain shields at the top of each window,  the hinged windshield, the SUNROOF,  the hood and cowl louvers,  and wheel discs make for a really good looking car!

A wonderful profile!

.

The actual build sheet for the car!  It shows Stanley Johnson of Bearsted House as the original owner as of April 20th, 1934, and also the original engine, A8S  which is still in the car!  I like the note about the angled hood louvers,  and the factory designation as a Sports Saloon!

.

.

the BKL1 is the original Bluemels license plate referenced in the Dalton Coachbuilt Rolls Royce book.  And the Black California plate means it’s been in California since at least the 1960’s.

.

Great styling from every angle!  I absolutely Love rearmounted spares!  and on this car, the whole tail light and license plate apparatus is clamped to the center hub, with bumpers trimmed to match the spare.

.

Here’s the driver’s side – that’s the right side!

.

And the Classic Spirit of Ecstasy Mascot, and the iconic Rolls Royce grille!

.

That dark green is the original paint, and the original color. Unfortunately the previous owners did a bunch of sanding and primer on the body, at least there is factory paint to guide the restoration if you wish.

.

Mostly original leather, but as you can see it will need to be redone.  Good patterns for the seat pleating!  And the stuffing coming out is the original goose down, only the best materials were used!

.

Good steering wheel, and good instruments and accessories.  The woodgrain  will need some help!

.

Speedometer, oil pressure, temp gauge and amp meter and the dash lights  and head lights all work !  However, the Petrol gauge and clock don’t work.

.

throttle, carburetion and spark controls all hooked up and working.

.

The original Coachbuilder’s plate atop the original carpeting.

.

The seats are on rails, and are adjustable.

.

All 4 of the original window frames survive, and I love how the window frame matches the outside chrome belt line trim!  All 4 inner doorhandles, all 4 window cranks, and all 4 exterior doorhandles survived and are mounted on the car.

.

The original doorpanels did not survive.  Some of the wood body structure is good and solid, for example the rear doors fit and shut nicely,  however  there are places, notably both front doors, that will need further repair.

.

The back seat has a nice arm rest feature,  and of course will need restoration.

.

Both front seats have this cool spring loaded map pocket feature!

.

the Rolls 6 cylinder engine, It starts easily and runs and drives!  The autovac is working, and the brakes stop the car nicely!

.

Hub wrench and knock off hammer visible here in their original mountings.

.

Engine crank and crank for the jack.

.

exhaust side, showing the Autovac, dynamo and Starter.

.

The engine starts easily and runs quietly.

.

The Jack attachment is clipped vertically to the firewall.

.

Here’s the listing in the Dalton “Coachwork on Rolls Royce 1906-1939” .  the body number, 5905 is stamped and written all over the place on various body components and pieces.  Note the BLK 1 license plate.

.

The book is included with the car.

.

It will require restoration – what a spectacular style and a show-stopper when it’s done!
